People who have strong feelings about the anti-vax movement and how irresponsible/harmful their actions are, but they're okay with equally unscientific treatments like homeopathy because they think it doesn't hurt anyone. Uh, yeah, actually if you or your kids are sick and take homeopathic treatments instead of going to a doctor for real medication, that's actual harm done.

I have never actually seen this. Do you know someone like this? Because that's like...wow...

There are people right here on FS who give stuff like homeopathy a pass because the "medicine" is just a placebo, so by itself it does no harm. They kind of miss the point that if someone with a real illness is spending money on placebos instead of actual medication, that's not good. Much like how not vaccinating is fine and dandy... until the un-vaccinated person comes into contact with the measles, etc.

I haven't seen that. Not saying it hasn't happened, but I'm surprised to hear that of F!S which is pretty ardently pro-science.

Homeopathy is dumb, but refusing medical help for your kid upsets me much more than just using it yourself. I also used to assume homeopathy was just something people added on to normal medical care, but I like it a lot less (not that I liked it before - I was more-or-less neutral; now I dislike it) knowing that people actually try to replace real medical care with it.
