There are people right here on FS who give stuff like homeopathy a pass because the "medicine" is just a placebo, so by itself it does no harm. They kind of miss the point that if someone with a real illness is spending money on placebos instead of actual medication, that's not good. Much like how not vaccinating is fine and dandy... until the un-vaccinated person comes into contact with the measles, etc.

I haven't seen that. Not saying it hasn't happened, but I'm surprised to hear that of F!S which is pretty ardently pro-science.

Homeopathy is dumb, but refusing medical help for your kid upsets me much more than just using it yourself. I also used to assume homeopathy was just something people added on to normal medical care, but I like it a lot less (not that I liked it before - I was more-or-less neutral; now I dislike it) knowing that people actually try to replace real medical care with it.
