Wow, they even have similar color schemes! (Which I am digging.)

...Uh, and when you say marry is that a 'I would so marry this character' thing, or can you actually marry them in-game?

Either way, I can see why you would want them to look older; they're cute, but look very young.

You can marry them in game, and in the case of the last one you can also pair her up with one of several other dudes. Almost all of whom look way older than her, but hey.

Oh man, I wish BioWare games allowed you to marry... I totally understand why that might not work for storyline reasons, but it would be fun.

I haven't played many games where you can marry! (Most allow you to marry random NPC's, but they tend to be bland.)

The ability to pair characters up sounds fun, too! More games need that option.

(Also, hi vethica! Glad you're still around.)

Not only can your pair them up, you can recruit their future children, who've time-traveled back from a bad future to try to avert their parents' deaths. In most cases, the child is connected to the "mother" character, but with stats (and hair color) influenced by whoever the "father" was. One character is linked to her father, so any character whose mother can marry her father can potentially be her sibling, with their interactions rewritten accordingly. Also, the main character's child can be the son or daughter of ANY character, including second-generation, with a dizzying number of possible parents and siblings.

Naturally, there's a giant, flaming wall between the fans who pair characters off based on who has the cutest romances, and the fans who pair characters off based on what will give the children the best stats.

Just reading this confused me, but the game sounds pretty epic and complex. (So much customization...) Which one is it again? I've never heard of anything like this. It's certainly a unique thing for an RPG to do.

(The stats thing is cool!)

It's Fire Emblem: Awakening, and it's a really fun game! It's probably my favorite video game ever. c:

I should add that not only can you recruit the future kids, you can also pair said future kids with each other. This really is Shipping: The Game. And I love it.

I'm sitting here going, "...canon incest?" I'm sure you meant unrelated kids, lmao. You pair up multiple couples, from what I understand? This is a weird game. A weird, glorious game.

At any rate "Shipping: The Game" is totally my kind of game.

.........actually, depending on your definition of incest! You absolutely do have the option to pair up first cousins. :B

And you should totally play it, oh man. Do you have a 3DS?

Can you?! Haha, I've wanted to pair up sibling Sims before, so while a bit different I think it's pretty neat you get the option!

I do not. :( If there weren't so many different options and paths I'd say let's plays might be good, but it sounds like the kind of game you need to play for yourself.

Aww, that sucks man. If you ever get the opportunity in the future, though, I highly recommend it. ♥

For what it's worth, Awakening was not the first Fire Emblem game to use the pairing mechanic. I know characters can have children in Genealogy of the Holy War, which came out in 1996 for the Super Famicon. I think it had a Wii U port, or you could try emulating it. (And I think there are a bunch of games in the series that have multiple possible romances, but don't have children.)

Huh, yet another game I hadn't heard about. (Well, I HAD heard of Fire Emblem, but I had no idea about the pairing mechanic.) I haven't bought a Nintendo console in a long time and only own a DS. Booo.

The romances sound great, though! I'm not ashamed to say I get giddy thinking about BioWare romances, and when given the option (Even in games like Skyrim where the options aren't particularly exciting, and the interaction is limited) I take it. Maybe one day I'll get to try one of these.
