What is love?
(Anonymous) 2015-03-04 11:55 pm (UTC)(link)How do you know if or when you love someone?
How is it different from liking a person very much?
What cues do you use to figure out when a relationship moves from being quite fond of someone to loving them?

(Anonymous) 2015-03-05 12:17 am (UTC)(link)But, more broadly, I think romantic feelings stem from thinking "This is the person I want to share my life with."
When you have friends and family, they're definitely important to you, but you don't build a life with them the same way that you would a romantic partner, I think.

(Anonymous) 2015-03-05 12:32 am (UTC)(link)eh? how is talking to the other person supposed to clarify your internal feelings about whether you consider yourself "in love" with them or "in like" with them, if you aren't sure yourself?

I think that works for all types of like/love, though. There are a couple of friends who, after we drifted apart, I never gave a second thought to, even though I did truly like them. But my close friends, I still miss, and I wish I could hang out and catch up.
It's the same with my husband. He's not just someone I enjoy spending time with. I need to spend time with him, or I feel desperately lonely.

(Anonymous) 2015-03-05 01:20 am (UTC)(link)People want to use it for some kind of exclusive romantic thing, but also for familial affection, and for affinities of various levels.
"Do you love her?"
"Uh...I love onions."

Re: What is love?
I knew she was a life partner when I started to realize that she also does all the "right" things, like filling in the parts of my experience that I lack and complementing my strengths and weaknesses. Her approval makes me question my choices and philosophies, and expands my understanding. It's a cliché, but she really does make me a better person.
Beyond that I think the ideas about wanting to spend life together and being able to communicate and have fun are pretty solid ones for friendship and love alike; passion tends to fade but a good relationship lasts because you enjoy each other's company.
