I'm not sure there's any one thing I forgive all negatives for. Maybe Middle Earth?

This is a difficult question for me because I readily acknowledge most issues with the media I love and continue to enjoy it regardless. I don't typically let negatives throw me off unless they're overwhelming, and I can sometimes just shut off and enjoy.

...I want to say Dragon Age, but I hate The Fade a fucking lot, find The Deep Roads to be wayyyyy too long, was frustrated by how repetitive the gameplay (and environments) in DA2 was, and was even more frustrated by how boring most of the quests in DA:I were. Still...I love Dragon Age. So I guess that?

I adore DA, and I've had a blast with all 3 even though DA2 and DAI are seriously lacking (in opposite ways!).

I can't forgive the poorly thought out lore, though. It's really obvious as the series goes on that they came up with a generic European fantasy setting for DAO, added a few neat elements, and really didn't expect to expand things much beyond that limited pool. DA2 doesn't suffer too much because the scope is so limited, but by DAI the cracks are really starting to show. And the more supplemental material they release, the worse the problem gets.

Objectively...no, it isn't terribly unique, and sometimes it feels like BioWare is making it up as they go along, but I still love the world of Dragon Age.

So I guess Dragon Age IS an appropriate answer for me.

Your criticism is valid, though! God knows I have my share, about different things. (I think you're right about DA2. In some ways I find DA2 to be a stronger game than DA:I, because while yes, it is on a much smaller scale, it also feels more personal and most the quests are more enjoyable.)

I sort of feel like I love the IDEA of Thedas, but not the execution?

Like I love so many of the concepts but Bioware is so busy trying to make the setting exciting that they keep jumping on the the next idea without fleshing out the ones they have. So like in DAI they removed Keep customization and the strategy elements, and Viv's dialogue retcons the harshness of the Circles because it's no longer convenient story-wise, and the Venatori sound so cool but end up being a couple guys mumbling in a desert.

I find the party members to be absolutely flawless and perfect in every way, though. So I guess there's that.

I def do agree that there's a lot more BioWare could do with Thedas.

I didn't mind Viv's dialogue too much since she says that every circle is different and every mage has a different experience. It still felt to me like everything that we had seen about the circles was true, just that there was a bit more variety than we had realized. (And not necessarily much at that.)

I can see how people get tired of retcons in general, though. (I know a lot of folks raised hell about Leliana being alive no matter what.)

And the Venatori thing is unfortunate, but I chalk that down to the rest of DA:I's issues... If the gameplay and quests hadn't been so mindless there would've been an opportunity to make them into a more interesting and formidable enemy.

The cast is my main reason for loving these games too.

Middle Earth seems to be popular. Though, what the heck is The Fade? I hear people complaining about it all the time.

The Fade is a really difficult dungeon that's long, forces you to fight without your party, introduces a shape-changing puzzle mechanic, and has a complicated map so it's really easy to get lost. You're also forced into this long pita dungeon right in the middle of ANOTHER long pita dungeon, and you can't exit either partway through. It's just one long grind.

I really like the fade, but most people seem to hate it. XD

What anon said! I'm also going to copy and paste from the DA wiki.

The Fade, known by the Dalish as the Beyond, is a metaphysical realm that is tied to Thedas and separated by the Veil. Every living being in Thedas enters the Fade when their spirit leaves their body after death, or mentally when they dream, and mages tap into it when they cast spells. The only exception are the dwarves, who do not dream. Most people do not remember their time in the Fade - mages being a distinct exception, as they are able normally to remain "conscious" while traveling there. The Qunari claim that they do not dream as humans and elves do. This claim seems to be valid as they are rarely encountered in the Fade.

You visit The Fade in each game, but the section that everyone hates is in the first one, Origins, because it comes near the end of a long story mission and is extremely frustrating. You're seperated from your party, given some shapes/monsters to change into and have to find your way out. There is a bit of a puzzle element to it, and if you don't get lost once or twice (...or twenty five times) it's a miracle. It's just a long, not-fun stretch of gameplay that people just want to get the hell out of ASAP because it consists of stumbling around in confusing, fighting, and not much else.

I don't think you're the only person.

...Maybe ONE of the only ones, but there's at least a couple others. >. >

(I'm sorry, I wish I enjoyed The Fade more, but... I can't. I can't. The illusion bits were gold, though!)
