This secret implies that the other people on the show are actually overflowing with talent instead of the bland, mediocre-at-best they are. That show is terrible. The actors are largely terrible (some of them are also abusive, shitty human beings besides). At least Lady Gaga can actually sing.

Look, the lady has musical talent. You might not dig her style, but she has talent, vocally. Perhaps she will also surprise the world and be pretty damn good at acting. She's a performer and and a musician. Actors, to some extent or another, also craft images, another reality, which is what Lady Gaga has done with her musical career. So...maybe she won't be awful :) I'm hoping she's great.

Stuff like that irritates me when I think about all the great actors out there who are underutilized or unrecognized because they don't have viable connections. Like, those people can try and try but showrunners still know that if they cast some dumbass like Gaga, curiosity will compel viewership, so somebody more deserving goes without so some rich hobbyist can have some fun.

I have nothing to say about Lady Gaga or AHS, as I don't know anything about either.

But I do share your aversion to stunt casting. H50 and the CSIs are terrible with that kind of thing. It's so distracting to the story. I watch TV to watch actors act -- to be immersed in the stories and the characters.

I don't want celebrities or singers. Now, if they can act and I'm not distracted by who they are, that's great. But if the show is going to pull the singer out and have her sing her latest song. Or, the reality TV star is just there to look hot and can't act, then that pisses me off. When the show is marketing "Celebrity X in next Episode" rather than the next story arc, that just seems like desperation to me.

I feel the same way about obvious product placement. I can be fairly forgiving for products because conceivably the characters might need to use the thing. But when Steve basically did a car commercial for Danny's new car (or all the windows tablets that were in ALL the CBS shows), I just can't take the show seriously. It's not even good camp. It's just annoying.

I don't like her music, and I don't like the whole weird outfits thing, but she has SHITTONS of talent. Her Oscars performance alone proved that.

Let's take Madonna - I know that after both unsuccessful movies like Shanghai Surprise or Swept Away and successful movies like League of Their Own or Evita, she didn't do anything musically (wait, True Blue, Like a Prayer, Erotica, Bedtime Stories, Ray of Light, Music, Confessions on a Dance Floor totally don't count, right?)

But, of course, no one would ever compare Lady Gaga to Madonna.
