Does it matter? I mean, are her looks really important to the plot?

I'm not really familiar with this specific show, but if it's a romance in 17th-century Scotland, her looks may be important. I'm reminded of The Sterkarm Handshake, which makes it clear that the FMC is beautiful according to the Rubenesque standards of the time, not necessarily our standards.

It's time travel. She traveled back from the '40s in Britain just post-WWII. She was a nurse on the front lines. Also, rationing.

They're not crucial, but frankly, I always roll my eyes a bit when a heroine is described as on the curvy side in a book, but the TV/movie adaptation casts someone who's a size 2.

Not OP, but while I'd say her looks aren't excessively important to the plot, her figure is referenced again and again by Jamie - many times over - so yeah, I get where the OP is coming from.

Jamie definitely has plenty to say about Claire's looks that is rather contradicted by the casting choice of a tiny little slip of a woman.
