That florist/tattoo artist thing started with a meme totally unrelated to The Hobbit, then at one point one artist got sick of all the typical imaginings and tried to flip the roles. I think the art (by the original person) is really cute but it's definitely a joke that ran away with itself.

But nothing will beat that famous genderbent fic where Bilbo is an underwear model. Nothing in the story (or what I've read of it, anyway) strikes me as being remotely reminiscent of the characters at all.

I didn't know it started out as a meme! Huh. TBH I'm not even sure I've seen the original art, I've just been confused about how much there is of it. Every time I check the tag it seems like there's new fanart or drabbles.

lmao, I've scrolled past that fic a hundred times so I can't speak for its quality, however I am not in the least surprised. (I've read some AU's that were a bit out there, but nothing quite at that level.)

Yeah, I don't remember when it was but there was a post on Tumblr (where else) about someone seeing a flower next to a tattoo parlour. It went viral and the rest is history. I've seen this AU in... maybe a couple of other fandoms? But Hobbit fandom sure went nuts with it.

Oh god. As if the one-two punch of genderswap and modern AU wasn't enough. My suspension of disbelief can only go so far.

Oh, internet. You so odd. You never know what's going to catch on next...

Genderswap is so hard for me to process...I keep seeing the characters as the actors cross-dressing. I look at art now and then, but I generally stay away from fic because I can't get into it. Genderswap and modern AU...yea, to me the author might as well be writing an OC.
