Wouldn't Bard be more of a truck driver? Illegal smuggler doing it for dem kids? Someone working 3 shifts and not sleeping?
Er, unless he modeled plainly as well ... a job not a career.

(Anonymous) 2015-03-06 01:07 am (UTC)(link)I have been caught, oh noes. :D And I didn't even mention the reality star Bard/Thranduil AUs.
I complained to a friend about all of those weird jobs they put Bard in, and we actually talked a bit about what he might do. We thought maybe some kind of delivery job? Truck driving was also considered but we figured he wouldn't want that, because that would mean he'd have to be away from the kids.
Three shifts, no sleep sounds good.
Thranduil is a lot harder to pinpoint, tbh. He wouldn't be a pop star, that much I know.

(Anonymous) 2015-03-06 01:18 am (UTC)(link)Can't pinpoint Thranduil as well - maybe just ... someone taking care of a family manor and investing? He's pretty isolationist, has certain social grace (for fundraising and events), connetions, manipulative and all that.

Thranduil would be old money, yes. Investments does sound good, because that means he can leave it out to others to do all the actual work, and he just makes decisions and plays the social game.
Can't imagine how these two would meet in this situation, though. What's modern AU Smaug gonna be?
Although, Bard is related to the former King of Dale, Girion, so maybe that could be used in some way. Bard's family used to be rich, something bad happened, Bard is poor and has to feed 3 kids, some papers surface and Thranduil has to contact Bard. Needs some polishing, I admit. And lots of details. But that's how I'd do it.

(Anonymous) 2015-03-06 01:47 am (UTC)(link)Smaug is easy for me - just re-write his voice actor as a proper character and voila :D - he's plenty similar (but hides it better). Everyone can definitely battle over land. Thranduil investing in development or a place belonging to Thorin wanting to do something odd with the area, the other not liking it. While they argue, Smaug swindles them out of it. They try to get it back.
Bard can be stuck anywhere really :P . And yeah, plenty of truck drivers being on the road for days because of outsourcing. OH. JUST MAKE BARD ROYAL MAIL! He can deliver all the papers and wonder what's up :P . Unscrew a paper trailwork. OKAY, I STOP.
