Plus, part of the trigger isn't just the nature of the cases; it was also the cinematography. I have a friend who is/was (I think she had to pause due to RL stuff) working on a thesis regarding how certain types of cinematography (and she specifically gave Criminal Minds as an example) are designed to activate the same parts of the brain that are affected by PTSD, anxiety, and the like. Basically, the way it's filmed is designed to have similar effects, and if you already have PTSD, anxiety, the like (such as I do), even if the content weren't triggery, just the cinematography could trigger panic attacks. Which goes along with what I experienced, even in eps that weren't as intense story-wise. It's an interesting theory/concept.
Which sucks, because I really did like the show, but... well. There's some shows I will watch because I really want to, even if I know I might need to take anxiety medication (BSG and Grey's Anatomy, for instance, sometimes have triggery content, same with Game of Thrones), but when it hits the point of "I need to take anxiety medication before watching an episode, regularly"... I had to stop. It still annoys me because I would've kept watching just for Garcia, but it also wasn't uncommon for me to get panic attacks despite anxiety medication. Boo. :(
