You do realize this is literally the worst argument in the world, right? That's like saying that you can't say that eating nothing but french fries is bad for you because how would you know? Are you a doctor or a nutritionist?

You don't have to be neuroscientist to know that people don't actually have other people living in their heads. A person may have many fractured parts of a single personality that vary wildly, but they are the same person, and we should not encourage or indulge people fawning over their "headmates". If they're not straight-up lying for attention, then they are very, very, very sick, and they need to be helped out of their illusions.

I was never 100% sure whether LB Lee really thought their headmates were actual people, or if accepting the different personalities was more of a coping mechanism, but I thought LB Lee implied it was the latter, anyway.

I find it pretty telling that ever since they were called out on their endless not-so-subtle advertising under the guise of actually giving a crap about the comm that they've gone somewhere else with their exhausting levels of self-promotion. At least one can only hope so.

NAYRT, I didn't know that happened, but that does make me wonder... I definitely wasn't sure why they joined(ish) when they didn't seem all that interested in fandom, but there's a lot of people who post in GC without really being into fandom.

Dude, it's a coping method. You don't have to believe it's a real mental illness to accept that a rape victim has the right to a comforting fantasy, if other methods fail.

A lot of people don't believe that transgender people are really a different gender inside, but still accept that transitioning alleviates their feelings of discomfort in way that no other treatment does.

I'm a survivor myself, thanks; I understand how disassociation after trauma works. I draw the line at naming your fantasy-"headmates" and playing them out constantly in real life as though they're real people that happen to exist alongside you inside your own head. That's when it's gone over into genuine mental illness, and it needs to be handled, to the point of dissolving said fantasies. Coping mechanisms aren't there for you to hide behind for the rest of your life-- they're there to help you deal with things and move on.

I'm not going to comment on the transgender argument, because it's literally not applicable here.

I'm glad that you have apparently found a way to deal with your trauma, but what worked for you won't necessarilly work for everyone and some people never get better.

lb lee is attending therapy, so unless you're their therapist, you're not the one who gets to decide what coping method is good for them and at which point they're going too far and step back.

No, I'm not them. I'm the person higher up in this thread who spoke about their own experience with using DID as a coping method.

I doubt that they're lying, I read their account about their rape and it didn't sound like the kind of story someone would make up for attention. But if they are bullshiting, that doesn't change the fact that my arguments are valid for the facts presented to us.

In lb's case, I'm not doubting their experiences but after the whole "goldenphoenixgirl" affair on tumblr, I'd say there are no limits to the stories some people would make up.
