I'm just noticing that a lot of gamergaters fall back on a sort of pseudointellectualism when they're in arguments. They also tend to think knowing the words "ad hominem" means people are going to take them seriously.

Writing formally isn't necessarily a sign that someone's trying to look more intelligent. It's often because the person writing doesn't want to be misunderstood. I've noticed it's quite common with people with learning disorders, dyslexia and dyspraxia, and people on the autism spectrum. They're so used to being misunderstood that they craft their posts and comments very carefully, which comes off as formal and stilted to people who haven't grown up with those disorders.

My problem is that you're defending bullshit that's making being a video game fan in public difficult for any girl not willing to laugh along with a bunch of douches.

Except I am not. I'm suggesting you be reasonable and accept that some people are a part of gamergate, care about diversity, care about women in the games industry, but also care about being labelled as being white cis het men who hate women by a media who are using this as a cover for shitty ethical practices.

One of the reasons I care about this is because thanks to this idea of gamergate being malehetroscum people like you can use the existence of scummy misogynist to justify unprovoked attacks on people like me when my comment was only opposing you making hurtful blanket statements and writing of anyone part of a group as as vile as the whole group. In response to this, you feel validated in calling them babies when we happen to not like being attacked.
