Oh anon. I have no advice to offer about the prison sentence, but your money is your money. You might need it yourself for medical bills next week; life is just that uncertain. Your brother is an adult, so are your parents. You can't do their growing up for them.

Can you put it in a term deposit (that what they call them in my country) so you can't access it for a set period of time? Most term deposits will allow access for genuine emergencies - which would not include getting a feckless brother out of a jail sentence he could easily have avoided.

If there's fallout you'll feel like crap. You'll also feel like crap if they use you like a cash cow - and they'll continue to do so.

I have it in a savings account and have been really good about not using it. Like, in the 3~ years I have had it, I only pulled out money once. Tho, I would like to find something to put it in to earn extra interest.
