I've tried to mention literary theory before in an argument in fandom once and just got yelled at "Its THEORY." well yes but it's still a way to anaylze something with a structure.

It has a bit of an ethnocentric bias though. Not that that's going to matter much in this case since most fic is written by people who come from western cultures.

Also, have you read anything by Bruner? The way he combines literary theory and psychology is fantastic, even if he's a bit of an obstuse read.
