We're saying "get their input because maybe that will help you decide, OP" not "let them dictate what you do." There is a world of difference.

I see. But it seems you're all expecting the partner to be understanding and suggest a pronoun OP would be comfortable using at work. That might not be the case. What I'm saying is, even if the partner is adamant about which pronouns OP should use, they are not obligated to do something that will make their work environment unpleasant just to please someone who's not even there.

Uh, we are? I wasn't, and I don't know why you would think so.

If it were me in OP's position, I would ask the partner and get their input. If the partner and I came to the same conclusion about what should be done, great. If I decided against going along with what the partner wanted, at least I would be doing it with their opinion in mind and have reasons for not going along with it and have discussed the matter and explained myself to them, instead of deciding for myself without even asking and going full speed ahead. It's a matter of respect.
