Except some people IN FANDOM read about fandoms they don't know all the time and sometimes, people read about kinks they don't even like just because they feel like giving it a chance or some other reason.

Yes, but it's kind of silly to try to review or critique fic that caters to kinks and/or a fandom you're not in. You're welcome to read it but you're not the intended audience.

If the critique is about characterization/not liking something, yeah, it's silly and pointless.

But the concrit this time* was mostly grammar stuff, no fandom knowledge is needed for that and just like anyone can read, anyone can comment on it, intended audience or not.

And if they aren't the intended audience or their comment misses all the marks, then it's better to ignore it or do anything that's not acting as if it was the worse offense ever.

*For whatever it's worth, I think the idea of the class was badly done, but anyone could find a fic by mistake, see it's possible to send a comment to the author and give similar concrit just because.

Shrugs. I haven't been keeping up with this mess. I was mostly commenting on the taking "this wasn't written for you" part out of context.

I doubt one person commenting in an awkward manner would have started any uprising. When it's an entire class that's obviously out of touch, commenting on fic like it's schoolwork (hell, it was for them!) though? That's where things get more than just strange and outright unpleasant.
