I've been watching the Toonami airings recently, and it's shocking how far Oda's fallen. Robin managed to be an inspiring, powerful, moving character throughout an arc where she was literally chained up as a damsel in distress most of the time -- she had dignity, she had resolve, the whole darned arc was about her choices and how they affected herself and those around her.

Rebecca, by contrast, gets every bit of dignity and free will taken away from her in order to keep her from sullying her precious hands. Ugh.

I've heard that this really started ramping up once he had a daughter... Wouldn't be the first time a father's overprotectiveness leaked out to bad effect.

Contrast with now where Robin's top doesn't manage to actually cover her breasts depending on the shot, falls for Momonosuke's cute act (neither she nor Nami are the type to not notice when they're being played, even if it's a kid) ,the dwarf tribe threatened to take her clothes because that's funny, I guess, and then one of the dwarf pops up between her breasts because that's also hilarious. She didn't even get to smack a bunch of marines this time around.

I'm really disappointed with how Oda treasts the female characters in this arc. I wouldn't even care about the boob/waist ratio if they were at least allowed to be awesome again. :(
