On the other hand, all that might play out with a different path to the same destination (the new BlizzardWatch did an interesting article on the "one true timeline" that points out that even though the orcs didn't drink Mannaroth's blood in the AU Draenor, they're still going to arrive at pretty much the same point.)

(Anonymous) 2015-03-12 01:59 pm (UTC)(link)Ah, thanks for the link to that article. It was an incredibly fascinating read [not sure why it's tinfoil hat worthy since it makes sense to me but that's neither here nor there] And that does make sense regarding the orcs apparently still following a predetermined piper's tune
[now I have visions of fixed points a la Doctor Who. Brain, just stop.]And true - that would be a HUGE fallout since so much would change for both Blood and Night Elves. (Maybe the Blood Elf Regent would finally do something..?) [If it did get scragged, I would hope Tyrande would pick Illidan instead of Malfurion in the alternate time line - was never a big fan of Malfurion. Much preferred Illidan since he was more proactive then his brother. Bleh.] Oh, and the Forsaken as well, because if Arthas didn't become Lich King, then he never would have killed Sylvannas and raised her as a Banshee, leading her to breaking free and forming the Forsaken

Then too, human/non-dead Kel'Thuzad is also key. Would Arthas' corruption would have happened anyhow without the plague & Stratholme? The Culling is really Arthas' defining moment for me, since it's his hunt for vengeance that takes him to Northrend after Mal'ganis.
ETA: They call any column that's lore speculation "Tinfoil Hat." For another cool read, look up the one they recently did on Khadgar. *g*

(Anonymous) 2015-03-12 02:39 pm (UTC)(link)Oooh, I like the Khadgar article, especially on the theories on who he might really be if that isn't the genuine article, which in turn does lead to an interesting question [how the bloody hell can he be in two places at once. He's still in canon 'verse Shat but also in alternate 'verse Draenor? Baby Draenei say what?]
Agreed on the Culling being Arthas' defining moment. [I have idly pondered what would have happened if Jaina realized there was no hope for the citizens and joined him in the Culling. Thoughts on how that arc might have gone?]

As for the Culling... I actually can't imagine Jaina helping with that, although looked at objectively I suppose one could argue there's not much difference between killing infected citizens and killing risen undead. Teleporting Arthas, Uther, and herself out of there (rather than just walking away) wouldn't have solved anything; the infected would still have had to be put down and the plague contained, and Mal'ganis would have found some other way to neener at Arthas in order to lure him to Northrend.

(Anonymous) 2015-03-13 02:33 pm (UTC)(link)I have to admit - my first reaction was laughter at the idea of Mal'ganis going "neener, neener, neener" to Arhas [still is]. But agreed, there's not much difference since infected citizens would lead to risen undead and you'd still have to kill them. I just wish Jaina would have let Arthas explain his rationale instead of her going "Nope, not helping" and walking away. [I still wish that cut scene had her there during Arthas' death scene. It would have given her some good closure]

The scripted event at the beginning of the CoS dungeon--where I think her exact words were "I can't watch you do this" --always made me feel as though she was admitting he was doing the only thing he felt could be done, I certainly agree with you: not very supportive, J.
I guess the only thing that waiting for the Stratholme citizens to succumb and letting them rise as undead before slaughtering them would have accomplished would have been to make it slightly easier on the conscience.

(Anonymous) 2015-03-13 07:27 pm (UTC)(link)I believe you're recalling the scripted dialog correctly. It sticks in my mind that she does say something to that effect.
And yeah, slightly easier on the conscience, but really, she should have been there supporting him [and possibly convincing him not to go to Northrend]
