Are you kidding me?

The deep bond of "brothers" between men is probably the most common and glamorized relationship onscreen. Unless it's a romance movie where the heterosexual romance will dominate.

Seriously, it always amazes me when people say "I don't want these two guys to be a couple becasue platonic relationships between men are so rare in the media!" No, no they're not.

Well, it is rare for them to be treated very seriously and to be portrayed as being as central and more important than het romantic bonds at the same time (most portrayals of "epic bromances" or whatever are made to seem funny or goofy - JD/Turk in Scrubs, etc).

But yeah, they're still way more common than male/male gay relationships and female/female platonic friendships.

I was coming here to say the exact same thing. I like slash specifically BECAUSE it adds a different spin on that sort of all-too-common relationship.

THIS oh my god. It's in fact the thing I was most jealous of growing up: how there seemed to be no deep, eternal bonds between women depicted in media. It was all men having the good friendships.

Seriously, male friendship is worshiped in almost every form of media ever, while female friendships or gay male relationships are either ignored or outright portrayed negatively and demonized.
