I'm glad it's around because everything has moved to Tumblr, and it's so hard to have a conversation there.

(Anonymous) 2015-03-14 12:03 am (UTC)(link)
Worse, the vibe would be totally different if it were on tumblr. Because face it, we say many, many things here that would be shouted down for being racist, sexist, homophobic, ableist and all around problematic (even if they aren't actually.)

This is more of a middle ground between the far right and the far left.

(Anonymous) 2015-03-14 12:06 am (UTC)(link)
That too.

I like that we can have discussions that I'm able to follow, even if everyone is flawed in their own ways.

I'm not advocating saying sexist things or w/e but it's nice that random sexist remarks get dismissed as troll or ignored instead of 600 people commenting to the same thing pointing out that it's sexist.

(Anonymous) 2015-03-14 12:07 am (UTC)(link)
Or worse, the commenter is doxxed. Holy Hell.

(Anonymous) 2015-03-14 12:21 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah. We're mostly a very feminist crowd here, but we're not fuckin' Tumblr feminists, which is like the evil strawfeminists from Hark! A Vagrant came to life as acne-raddled suburban children.

(Anonymous) 2015-03-14 12:25 am (UTC)(link)
That Milo secret from a few days ago points to the latter rather than the former.

Yeah, I mean, it'd be easier to bait but that'd just make the conversations even more impossible to have.

(Anonymous) 2015-03-14 12:08 am (UTC)(link)
Nah, f!s is pretty much tumblr left nowadays. Sadly.

(Anonymous) 2015-03-14 12:09 am (UTC)(link)
tbf if f!s is Tumblr left, then Tumblr itself is extreme Tumblr left

(Anonymous) 2015-03-14 12:09 am (UTC)(link)
No, it's not. Far from it. If you think that you need to go to tumblr to see how crazy it is. Literally mental.

(Anonymous) 2015-03-14 12:11 am (UTC)(link)
I am on tumblr, I am seeing it every day. There's just fewer people here on f!s, that's all, and hardly anyone with opposing views, so it appears calmer.

I think the only very obvious similarities that I've noticed are the submissions that would pass as secrets.

This community used to be pretty strict on wording (ie: opinion vs. fact), but things slide pretty easily now. Not sure I like that too much, but it is what it is.

I like it here either way, it's cozy.

I see FS as shouty on the left side of things, and FIMFiction as centrist. One of my editors sees FIMFiction as shouty on the right side of things, and can't seem to name a centrist site. He also thinks /d/ is scary right, while I think it's overall left. It all depends on where you are to the left or the right.

(Anonymous) 2015-03-14 12:11 am (UTC)(link)
the fact that we get similar numbers of anons calling FS too left or too right all the time makes me think its internet fandom centrist if not real life centrist

since internet fandom tends left to begin with

/d/ can be scary right. The racist, sexist things spewed on that site.... No. I'll just stick to /co/ for the odd storytime.

Yeah, /d/ can get unsurprisingly scary right and ridiculous a lot of the time in surprising places. Folk will split hairs on things like cuntboy if they get the inkling it's too close to ftm (too sjw to hold its own thread) and roll out the slurs (/y/ does this too) .

/pol/ not withstanding, most of 4chan isn't all that right, they are just anti-tumblr and reaction to anything that's "too tumblr" with trollish vitrol. Though their /lbgt/ board is one of the more right-leaning places of it's kind, that's more by comparison then anything.

Last night's steven universe reaction thread, for example, was all about how Ruby and Sapphire were clearly a lesbian metaphor but, unlike Korra "this one wasn't shoehorned tumblr pandering."

+1

FS these days is like Callahan's, The Restaurant at the End of the Universe and the Zocalo, all rolled into one.

(Anonymous) 2015-03-14 12:09 am (UTC)(link)
the Restaurant is an interesting comparison. I never thought of it like that. Distantly connected to every fandom and part of none

(Anonymous) 2015-03-14 12:43 am (UTC)(link)
ayrt

Right? Plus, we've got the joy shared is increased/pain shared is lessened of Callahan's, and the variety of the Zocalo.
