Oh man.

I'm friends with a (really cute) guy who has a big nose that is veeeeery slightly crooked. He hates it and wants a nose job. I think his entire face is adorable but he's hated his nose for a long time and is set on changing it. :/

In a similar vein, my brother also has a very big nose, as do my dad and granddad. My granddad totally fits the "Jewish nose" stereotype, to a T, and his male progeny inherited it. All of them are handsome gentlemen, not that I'm biased or anything...big noses can be really awesome.

I'm so glad you've come to love your nose! <3

I love prominent noses. Long noses are great.

(Anonymous) 2015-03-15 08:35 pm (UTC)(link)
Good for you, OP! :D

(Anonymous) 2015-03-15 08:43 pm (UTC)(link)
It's so weird how they're practically the same designs, but I find the Frozen character designs cute and the Tangled ones annoying looking. I can't figure out why I feel that way.

And yay for your nose acceptance. I have a roman nose, and it's taken me a long time to learn to be ok with it. But different noses are attractive, and I'm sure you look lovely with yours.

Roman nose? With the high bridge between the eyebrows? That is so cool-looking!

We've got a Roman nose too, anon! One of the oddest compliments our vessel has ever gotten is that our nose goes ruler-straight.

Once in a while I'll see someone post before-and-after pictures of people who have had nose jobs, taken from the websites of plastic surgeons. And 99.99% I'll want to weep over all the gorgeous noses and profiles that have been made bland as hell. "Cute" button noses have no character, IMO; large, long noses are beautiful and give your face personality.

(Anonymous) 2015-03-16 09:59 pm (UTC)(link)
+1 I've rarely seen a nose job that improves someone's face. At most they'll make people generic looking, which I guess is what they wanted but I just feel sad.

There's nothing wrong with big noses! If all noses were the same the world would be awfully boring.

Button noses work on some people, but as long as your nose suits your face I don't see the problem. (And I find that most do.) Some people wouldn't look right with a smaller nose.

Oh, no, big noses are the best. And big noses do tend to get an obvious slant to one side or the other.

Good on you!
I've always found excessively 'snipped' button or turned up noses unattractive. I've always loved a strong Roman or hooked or hawkish nose, noses with bumps or a little crook - anything a little 'different'. I loved Klinger's nose! :)

(Anonymous) 2015-03-16 02:08 am (UTC)(link)
I'm really glad you've learned to love your nose OP. I think most of us were born with the noses we were meant to have, sometimes when people have plastic surgery and try too hard to alter that, it looks weird.

I really hope this calling out of animated characters goes further though, like I hope people actually start contacting companies about it and stop buying merchandise where all the girls look the same. I actually have my own interest in this since I'm an artist, and while I like drawing cute girls I'd love to be able to draw more of a variety of cute girls. Artists don't have much control over this though, even if you draw an interesting girl often you'll have a client come back telling you to make them look like Elsa :/

This secret made me smile so much! I'm happy for you, OP.
And the same-face discussions also made me appreciate much more good character design and people's unique features. Hope there will be a similar discussion regarding body types.

Good for you.

I remember when Jennifer Grey got her nose done, she went from cute in an interesting way to pretty in a generic sort of way. Sometimes changing something about yourself takes away something that you don't actually want to lose.

Text: I’m really glad about all the criticism on “same face syndrome” that’s been popping up lately. Drawing is so much more fun now that I’m not obsessed with making everyone look beautiful. That’s not the secret though.

I’ve always been insecure about my nose. It’s big and crooked, the kind that villains typically have. I envied the cute little button noses.

All the discussions really got me thinking about my standards of beauty. My secret? I’ve learned to love my nose!

That's awesome. We non-button folks need to represent. :)

Good for you, OP!

Also I dunno if this helps, but if I'm not wrong most of Disney's heroines are designed by the same person who actually has a bias for the same big eyes/small nose/petite body thing.

Woo for noses!

We inherited our father's Roman nose, while our younger brother got a little button nose. For a brief period, he was called 'Whoville' because of it.
