I get told I'm plenty empathetic. I try to be empathetic to things. It's not difficult to turn it on and off.

Maybe you're introverted, or depressed, or just under personal stress. I felt like I was a sociopath about ten years ago. I was scared and stressed out to an enormous degree.

Now I think I'm really not. Pathological and socially awkward, yes, but not without empathy at all. I just had too much anger and fear to have much functional empathy before.

No, I'm quite happy and extroverted with no stress to speak of. That's what makes me worry, it's not outside causes.

That's like saying if a narcissist has ever wondered if they're a narcissist, they're objectively not one and cannot ever be one because they wondered once. Which would be absolutely wrong. If it were that simple, things would be easy.

Ofc the answer I always end with is "ofc I'm not one" but that doesn't tell me anything, because that's the answer I -would- end up with

This is a common myth, but I wish people would stop repeating it like it's gospel. Some types of mental illness or personality disorder can make it difficult for people to realize what's going on with them, but it's not impossible. Sociopaths are probably the most likely to realize what they are.
