I keep getting confused at so many people actually knowing what all sorts of authors look like. Most books that I read don't have pictures of the authors and I don't go actively searching for pictures for every author. I don't really care what an author looks like.

But then again, I even sometimes miss who the author is in the first place (like that time I read this vampire novel by George R.R. Martin and only noticed months later who the author was).

I think it's more the people who don't read these things, but still want to laugh about their existence. They'll use the first insult that pops into their head and, especially for women, that'll probably be about appearance.

Ah, so it's less a matter of "I looked up all the pictures of authors whose books I read and I will mock the ugly ones" and more a matter of "I saw a picture of an author whose books I didn't even read in an article somewhere and mock them"?
