I can't stand complainers who can do something about the problem they have but are too lazy or stupid or fond of having something to complain about to do it.

I mostly find it's the third option that keeps them from doing something about their problem. They enjoy getting to play the victim too much.

I had a friend like that in HS. She would constantly complain (and not just as a sounding board, but 'what am I doing wrong? tell me? type of way) about the guys she dated and how they treated her, but she also consistently dated the exact same type of guy every time.

Eventually I just told her that if she didn't actually want advice or wasn't going to listen to anything we had to say, that I didn't want to hear her complaints. You can't date immature 'hyuk hyuk women belong in the kitchen/are just here for us to bang' type guys and then be surprised when there's a distinct lack of respect for you or your relationship.

She wasn't all that happy and did the typical, "But you're my friiiiiend, I should be allowed to vent to yoooou." thing. I had to take a breath and remind her that if she was just venting about not being able to find the right guy, it wouldn't have bothered me. It was the consistent begging for help/advice and then pretty much ignoring everything we said that was making it frustrating.

(Ugh, I know right? I mean in all fairness she was very much trying to fill a void in her life by just being with someone/not being alone, but yeah...)

I hope she grew out of that for the sake of everyone involved. Sounds very frustrating and draining, and miserable for her too.
