Thats what been annoying me about f!s lately, acting like tumblr is uniquely terrible and the worst place on the web when there's so many other places just as bad or worse. Like, I get that most people here came from LJ and tumblr killed that site, but the hate-boner for tumblr is getting old. Yeah it's a shit-hole of a place but every social media site on the web past and present have awful elements about it, including all the old social sites we used to go on back in the day.

And honestly how you experience tumblr is entirely up to you.
Only wanna look at porn and cats? Just follow porn and cat blogs. Wanna just look at SJ and comicbooks? There are blogs solely for that.
Idk I can't help but think people who never shut up about it and act like its literally Satan's armpit have never even made an account.

That being said, Tumblr is the social media platform right now. Livejournal type blogs are rapidly declining in visibility owing to the ease of use of Tumblr for microblogging (which it's uniquely suited for because of its mobile-friendly design (the narrow themes and dashboard, etc)).

So it's no surprise that the hyped-up crusader types will use Tumblr as their platform and it's what people think of when they think of patchouli-eating "activists", as caricatured by "Social Justice Sally".

I think Facebook and Twitter are still more widely-used. Also Youtube for opinions. Tumblr is probably the biggest blogging-type site, at least the simplest.

this. there's always been bad parts of fandom and no internet site is ever going to be perfect, you'll be lucky to get 'not completely awful all of the time'. honestly I think a lot of old fandom is looked back on with rose-tinted glasses as this perfect thing that never had any issues or problems, which is an outright lie.

now tumblr being a shit platform for discussions? that I'll agree with, it really isn't suited for it.

but don't worry when the next big fandom platform comes along there'll be non-stop complaints about how that one has 'ruined fandom'.
