What fandom, pairing and where are you posting? It probably has more to do with that than with the quality of your stories and your English level.

Seconding this. Even decently written stories in larger fandoms can get very little attention if they're writing e.g. a pairing that's not widely shipped or writing about minor characters etc., so it's possible your fandom/characters are just flying under the radar regardless of language.

Yeah. And a lot of stories with terrible English, many by native speakers, get a lot of attention.

not OP, but my fanfics consistently get the bottom 2% amount of kudos in any pairing tag.
meanwhile I have a lot of success writing in my mother tongue, so I think it has to do with my English.

It might be, anon. Try getting a beta and see if that changes.

I just don't think that's usually the reason because there are many, many stories out there with terrible English that get a lot of attention. It might just be easier to get success when you're writing in your mother tongue because there are less stories.

Although there are a few fandoms that are much much in English than in Spanish, Portuguese, and French: Saint Seiya has always been that way.

I've only taken part in fandoms in languages other than English that were small, so I tend to think about it that way but you are absolutely right. Some of them are pretty big and active. Talking about Saint Seiya, your profile says you're in that one. Any pointers to where I can find fic? Any of those three languages would be fine.

There is a TON of Saint Seiya fanfiction on FF.net (over 14,000), and a fair amount on Ao3 as well, and I know for a fact (because I usually nominate StS every year for Yuletide and have to pull numbers :p) that only about 10-20% of it is in English. (Filter says 1100 of the stories on FFnat are in English).

I was mostly active in StS back in 2002-2004 so any info I have is likely quite outdated, but I think a few of the sites that were active back then are still around (such as Stakya's). I don't know if the Spanish forums (Miarroba?) or the French YahooML are still going, but I do know that there are still some multi-lingual comms percolating along on LJ and DW.

well, you could say the same thing about those stories with terrible English. maybe there's a higher demand and not enough stories to go around for certain tropes.

do you have tips for getting a beta? the three people who offered to beta fluked out on me.

Yes, exactly. It's more about meeting a demand than English level. Your English does not look like the kind of thing that would be a problem, by the way.

Sorry, not really. Haven't written in ages and I used to either get betas in LJ or post unbeta'd. But maybe say you're more interested in a beta for the language than for story critique. That might get you replies from busier people who don't want to write an essay about your story.

thank you. but, uh, my English got insulted on several occasions during the last year. Once on f!s, actually.

Sure, it depends greatly on how much goodwill you have for the content. However most people mention spelling mistakes first when they criticize writing.
