I don't feel that you need to speak a language to enjoy a song. I love Japanese pop/rock, but I have French music, Spanish music, Korean music, Italian music, Persian music, etc on my computer/mp3 player as well and as long as I enjoy the tune, it doesn't make a difference to me.

Plus half the time I can't understand what a lot of English singers are mumbling anyway. >.>:

This is not the default opinion of the masses? Do you mean most people think you need to understand the lyrics for the music to be enjoyable?

Huh.

As someone who has had songs ruined when I learned the lyrics, this is weird. Understandable, I guess, but weird.

I think many people enjoy music specifically for the lyrics. It's not bad not to care about the lyrics, but I don't think it's a majority opinion.
