I have no idea why they wouldn't just ask for a plain old-fashioned warning. Oh wait, yes I do. Because adding 'trigger' makes it sound more sensational, and makes them feel more justified in whining if you don't comply.

Not that I'm saying trigger warnings aren't a legitimate thing sometimes, but for character bashing? Not likely. 'Upsetting' or 'annoying' is not the same thing as 'triggering'.

Wasn't there a recent attempt to bring "squick" back as a term for the things that fall under the 'upsetting/annoying' category? When I first got into fandom (long ago) "squick" was the non-judgemental "this is not my thing" phrase when you wanted to avoid something that caused discomfort but didn't cause the sort of distress involved with triggering content.

And then I think SJWs jumped all over the idea and killed it dead for... some reason only know to themselves.
