Out of curiosity, what didn't you like about his characterization in The First Avenger?

Usually when people dislike that film, it's because of the film itself (it's boring or they dislike how the ending kind of falls apart and becomes a montage, Red Skull's a lame villain).

So I'm kind of intrigued to know what you disliked about Steve's characterization.

Oh, mine is mostly the movie. I thought it was incredibly boring. I've tried rewatching it but I can't get through it.

I think this rubs off on how I view the character. I saw him as a boring one note hero. Also, some of the stuff he did was cringey to me. But that is a personal thing of mine.

After seeing CA:TWS, I rewatched The Avengers and really enjoyed Steve Rogers more. It also helped that I realized how much Whedon fucked his character over. I am terrified what he is going to do to him in A:AoU!

There were a bunch of things I hated about that shitty fucking Whedon movie, but the way he totally fucked up Steve Rogers was certainly one of them. My solution is not to see any more shitty fucking Whedon movies.

When I was ambivelent towards Steve Rogers I didn't notice. But on rewatches it really bothers me.

That is why I am so happy the Russo brothers are doing Avengers 3.

SA-- hey, maybe (years after being excited and hopeful about The Avengers) I'll finally see an Avengers movie I like! Thanks for the heads-up, because I've been determinedly ignoring everything about those movies.
