I think it's only like that now because for so long it was the reverse situation. I remember seeing Tony fans just absolutely hate Steve in the Avengers. Remember that little argument they had in that movie? So many people (especially on tumblr) made it seem like Steve was horrifically abusing Tony, without even considering Steve's side of the issue or the fact that Tony also attacked him. But now that people realize how great Steve is and how horrible his life is, people have jumped onto his side and are now hating Tony.
