I love Signs too!

Came here to say this.

(Anonymous) 2015-03-21 04:05 am (UTC)(link)
Meaning no disrespect, but... how? What's the appeal? I honestly don't see it.

More Signs love!

Signs is perfect - if only they had better visual effects at the time. I read the script and the alien at the end is supposed to perfectly blend into its surroundings to the point where they almost don't see it. That effect didn't work so well.

But the rest of the film has such great build-up AND it gave us the awesome tinfoil hat image used in many gifs.

Signs is an underrated movie (even if I haven't seen it in years, and even if it doesn't really make sense)

Never saw What Women Want though.

I haven't watched it in years but this was a huge guilty pleasure of mine for a while.

I really liked Darcy, no lie. I realize we're supposed to identify with Mel's character and think she needs to lighten up at first...but hell no. Career driven women are my favorite.
brooms: everything ends (time is so old)

mega digression, but a helen hunt movie was also the first movie i saw more than twice on theaters, but in my case it was twister (8 times, my poor family). i still love that dumb thing.

Twister is a great bad movie that I watch every time I catch any part of it.

(Anonymous) 2015-03-21 01:51 am (UTC)(link)
I fucking love Twister, I don't care what anyone else says.

I love disaster movies in general, but Twister is up there in my top favourites.

Remember that time Helen Hunt was in almost every film? I miss her.

I enjoy the hell out of both these movies.

(Anonymous) 2015-03-20 11:33 pm (UTC)(link)
This movie had a weirdly intense impact on me. Like, I hat a notebook full of long-hand written fic about how he got zapped back and time and repeated the movie time frame WITHOUT FUCKING EVERYTHING UP AND BEING AN ASSHOLE. Usually that frustration would make me write off a movie, but this time I was strangely attached.

(Anonymous) 2015-03-20 11:47 pm (UTC)(link)
Signs was a good movie IDEC what anyone else thinks. M. Night jumped the shark with The Village, not Signs.

(Anonymous) 2015-03-21 12:03 am (UTC)(link)
I think even The Village had some good things going for it. Lady in the Water was where it all just became unforgivable.

Signs was a fantastic movie with some kind of hilarious flaws. I can't think of any other alien invasion movie that manages to capture how bizarrely people actually react in that kind of scenario. It hits that perfect blend of life going on as normal and everything falling apart. Plus Phoenix's performance is fucking flawless.

I LOVE Signs.

Yes. Mel Gibson gets shocked after falling into his bathtub with the hairdryer while trying on mascara, pantyhose, lipstick and other women's products for better to make ad campaigns and wakes up with the ability to hear women's thoughts and steal the ideas of Helen Hunt, who just got the job opening he had been angling for.

It's great.

Image: the cover of “What Women Want,” with Mel Gibson back where he was cute and presumably less batshit, and Helen Hunt

Text: There are so many things wrong with this movie, including Mel Gibson, but I love it anyway. Like, I literally saw it 5 times in the theater when it was released.

Bonus: I love Signs, too.

Everything about this movie was awful - mostly everything. I kind of liked him and his daughter bonding at the end, but otherwise...way to make our main woman character a total neurotic. And him a douche no matter what. Blech.

I completely understand this response to What Women Want.

St. Elmo's Fire is my favorite 80's movie, hands down. I have no idea how many times I've seen it but it's A lot. It came on one of the cable stations last night and it had been a very long time since I've watched it so I decided to. And the whole time it was on, I kept being horrified at the things the female characters went through or what the male characters said to them. And now I don't know that I'll view it again.
