Manips are always terrible, whether it's for RPF or regular fic (the LOTR and Supernatural fandoms are some of the worst offenders although it seems like the popularity of manips has been waning over the years...in most fandoms, anyway)

I agree mostly, and I think the hate for "white cock ships" is just the negative pushback from well-intentioned discussions about sexism and racism. Like people read something about how there is little diversity in media due to xyz reasons, and then respond with "no diversity? That's because of THOSE EVIL WHITE COCKS." Breaking one down to build up another is shitty but not new behavior.

*Blinks* ... Are there fics where Ryan is queer but Esposito isn't? Because I'd be all over that, too, especially if it comes with a side of unrequited love.

But Castle fandom is pretty unusual, I think. It's only real juggernaut pairing is Caskett...which has been canon for years and was obviously endgame from the pilot.

It scares me how much the fantastical side of the constructed Scottish identity and heritage has caught on with apparently actual Scottish people.

I crossover most movies/comics that have Elves with Tolkien but I have the hardest time seeing anybody as an Elf. The closest I've gotten is the red-headed dude that shows up when you look for Maedhros. Most of the Elves in the movies don't look like Elves. If Thranduil's eyebrows matched and weren't caterpillars, he'd be close too. But most of them are not beautiful enough and don't feel like Elves at all.

I feel like Chris Hemsworth would be great for the Rohirrim or for Hurin or something like that. His build and the beard is so very much not how I picture an Elf.

I share your ambivalence but for different reasons. I mean, I could tear my hair out about the changes and yet the idea of an elf spirit and a human spirit inhabiting the same body and working together -- of elf-power being more Harry-Potter-style -- it's just cool.

I do like that they're showing Celebrimbor's story but I dislike that he's shown with an army of orcs or that Sauron could apparently overcome his spirit enough to make him a puppet (even for a little while). I just feel that after everything that happened to his family, Celebrimbor would never associate with evil that way or try to be a king himself. And he's certainly too powerful for Sauron to overcome him in such a way as shown in the game.

But, I really do like the idea of an elf and man working so closely together and connecting over shared loss -- shared experiences. So, I am also tempted to play the game, even though I don't particularly like those kinds of games.
