You're entitled to not care, but its disingenuous to deny the impact it has. Forgive me, but you sound as though you're very insular in your fannish activities and don't care to see past the small circles you inhabit.

I agree that AO3 certainly used to have a very Western bent, but that's changed dramatically over the past few years. Every fic in every anime fandom I'm in these days goes back to AO3 or Tumblr. TV shows and movies have been there for a long time. On the occasions where I do see foreign-language fics, then their links go back to AO3 or FFnet too.

I haven't seen a link to a fic on a private site or on an archive that isn't FFnet or AO3 in years. I very rarely see links to LJ or DW anymore. I'm sure these places exist, but my point is that they're far from the province of the majority of fanwork creators. So those creators are going to be operating within the tacit rules of the circles they're in, which for you is one thing, but for the majority of others is something else.

Of course, I'm the insular one for frequenting many different fandom spaces, some that aren't connected to each other at all.
