I mean, jokes are jokes, but I can't help thinking that some people really do just kind of actually mean what they're saying. I can't avoid that conclusion. And that's bad.

I very much sympathize with the frustration black women face. I'm a POC woman myself although I'm white passing (weirdly, though, I've often been told I "look Jewish" even though I'm not Jewish and I didn't even know that was a "look").

But the world's often very harsh on black women -- particularly when it comes to looks because you see WAY too many guys just flat out state that they won't date black women or don't find them attractive. And that really fucking hurts, especially when you know there's NOTHING you can do about it.

I think my biggest problem, though, with the way this is handled is that I often see black women who hate on white women are propping up WHITE MEN at the same time. And, I'm sorry, but there's NO WAY white women have ever or will ever be greater oppressors than white men (though I don't deny that they can, do, and have contributed).

The hostility towards white women while white men and cooed over and loved makes it difficult for me to take their complaints seriously.

Note that not all black women do this (not even a majority), but the vocal minority that gets its hate on for white women DEFINITELY gives white men a MUCH bigger pass.

Keep on ignoring the actual point of the "boycott" (white fandom's words, not POC's) and continue blaming mean scary black women that your mini series...wasn't more popular?

As for me, I'm Mexican and hated this show for being dead dull and, despite claiming to be progressively feminist, STILL making everything about White Males. I didn't need much more motivation to stop watching, but seeing white fandom harass black MCU fans drove the final nail in the coffin.

Sweetie, the hatred of white women by black women, and the hatred of thin women by heavy women, are naturally far more intense (at the mean) than hatred of women by men (or whatever) or hatred of cissexuals by transsexuals.

White women (to black women) and thin women (to heavy women) are the competition. And if someone is insecure about her appearance and her desirability, then she may let loose all kinds of bluster about how she's better than that conventionally attractive "bitch," but underneath it's fear. Fear of losing to someone you can never be.

Is the median black woman like this? Not necessarily...maybe a little bit. But the average intensity of hatred of "skinny white bitches" is really high because the intensity on one end is so very, very high.

Tumblr is full of teenagers, of course it's full of bullshit. At least social justice twitter is actual adults, though the ones under 30 are often pretty clueless. If you want real thought you need to read blogs. Media Diversified etc.

I haven't heard much about this boycott (I pretty much ignored those tumblr posts) so I don't feel comfortable commenting on it. All I know is I enjoyed the show. It could've been better, it could've been much worse. *shrugs*

If they were actually boycotting, that's just so stupid, because what do you think will happen? More shows with black women protagonists? Nope, more shows with white dude protagonists, because they'll see it as proof shows with women do not sell.

I'm not familiar with that fandom, but yeah, I've seen people proudly calling themselves 'reverse racists', wishing violence on all white people everywhere because they're annoyed with some random individual whose skin colour isn't even known. Honestly? I've just got to the point where I've seen those jokes enough that it just makes me uncomfortable and wonder if the person saying them actually means what they're saying.

And when they do? That's bad. Yes those groups are opposed, and yes there is definitely enough to feel upset and frustrated by...but actively hating another group isn't the answer anymore than trying to wipe out those [privileged] groups is.
