I'm your opposite. I haven't read the book, not too fond of the ship (they're related, right?) but I like this art quite a lot. Hell, it's the fanart I've seen that is making me want to read the book.

Maedhros and Fingon are first cousins. It isn't entirely clear how close they were, and lets just say that the two sides of the family did not get along. However, when Maedhros was captured and tortured by Morgoth, Fingon is the one who rescued him. None of Maedhros's brothers even tried. That's mostly the basis for the ship plus a whole lot of headcanon that the fandom shares.

That's fair. Reading LotR can sometimes feels like ~all of the trees~ but Silmarillion is definitely ~all of the lengthy names and genealogy records~

That said I hope you enjoy the book(s) because I'm always happy to have more people to talk to in this fandom!
