I'm probably the only one who can see both/either of them as bi/gay, but can't see them together romantically, at all? Like, I can picture Ryan going "Damn, that guy's pretty hot," and Esposito nodding in agreement. Then they call each other bro and go eat pizza or something.

Also agree. I don't give any thought to a character being gay or bi; I ship regardless so I don't consider how likely it could be in the show..

But, either way, Esposito and Ryan never clicked for me as a couple.

I would LOVE this. So many times, queer characters are defined by being in a relationship. Two guys (maybe one is bi and the other is gay?) just hanging out and being friends without it being about the ~sexual tension~

After all, nobody makes a big deal then two straight people hang out.

(This may be a bit rambly and discombobulated. I've only had one cup of coffee so far.)

People make big deals all the time about straight men and women hanging out. They're always assumed to be fucking or in a friendship that's just a stop on the way to becoming romantic. The "men and women can't be friends" trope isn't just a trope, it's an actual thing a lot of people believe. No matter how stupid it is.

So it makes sense that two men who are both attracted to men would get the same treatment.
