I agree mostly, and I think the hate for "white cock ships" is just the negative pushback from well-intentioned discussions about sexism and racism. Like people read something about how there is little diversity in media due to xyz reasons, and then respond with "no diversity? That's because of THOSE EVIL WHITE COCKS." when i think of white dude ships, i specifically think of canons where there's just as much support/chemistry, if not more, for the interracial ship as the white guy ship, yet it gets ignored in favor for pairing two white guys together. see psych and scrubs fandoms.

Haha, unrelated but doesn't even have to be an interracial relationship for people to get vitriolic about this sort of stuff in fandom. There used to be so many SJWs in the Korra fandom who bullied artists for drawing Korra "too light" and white cosplayers for daring to cosplay a dark skinned character.

Thankfully that died down a bit after Mike (or Bryan? Can't remember which) schooled some particularly nasty SJWs on art theory. Although now there are people complaining that writing/drawing Korra in kinky situations with Asami is gross and degrading.

1. Like one of the commenters said above, there's a kernel of valid criticism in there. It is a little frustrating when one ship that by all means should be the fandom darling but gets ignored seemingly because one half of the pair is a minority.
However, the poster here is clearly just using that as a thinly veiled excuses used to rage on people who don't share their OTPs

There's always been folks who latch on to this sort of language to justify why someone else's ship is so, so wrong and gross and how it's totally because of legitimate social issues reasons and not because I'm annoyed that my ship isn't as popular or canon as I think it should be.
Back then it was "Katara/Aang is pedophilia!" and "Ron/Hermione is abusive!". Just roll your eyes, ignore it, add the blog to your blacklist, and keep on shipping what you love.

It's always been the opposite for me. I've seen some REALLY obnoxious and gross Steve/Tony and Thor/Loki shippers, but almost all of the Sam/Steve shippers have been usually pretty cool and lax. Idk maybe it's different for each fandom.

First post has a point but the second one is shit and uncalled for!
Op probably doesn't make edits and can't use photoshop otherwise they'd know the difference between a psd coloring making the lights more obvious and a psd coloring whitewashing poc. Also maybe their pc screen is the problem because here on mine the color of the actress skin doesn't look darker in the pictures they put.

Brown to light skinned black actresses are already whiutewashed by the lights in photoshoots and the flashes on the red carpet pictures, so when people try to make a nice edit out of these pictures few psds will work.

IA. In most recent years I've shipped two pairings both from the same fandom, one was two white dudes, the other interracial. The former was very much live and let live, just focus on the ship. The interracial one frequently bashes on other ships, every conversation winds up being about race, etc. I agree (talking about) representation is important, but sometimes I just want to squee, man. I want to push two characters together and make them kiss or have sex. One of them happens to be black, doesn't mean I want to ignore the other one in discussions. Shipping them isn't some moral decision either, I just like them together.

RE: "pastel" palettes

It's possible to make a cute pastel gifset without sucking all the color out of people's skin. It takes a bit more work than just slapping on a psd, but it's not some impossible task. If a gif maker says that they have to remove all the reds/yellows from a scene in order to make it cute/soft/pretty/pastel, they're full of shit.

Text: I don’t get why big “white men” slash ships seem to have such a bad reputation. I’ve honestly never met more fun and accepting shippers in my life. There’s no “wrong” way to ship it and no guide to the “proper” method of shipping. It’s just a community that takes two characters and writes about their interactions because we love them.

Are there annoying ones who demand that it be canon or bash canon love interests? Yes, but there’s shippers like that in every fandom (see Harmonians, Zutarians, Cleris/Cloti shippers, etc.). That’s not unique to slash.

On the contrary, though, I had to leave an interracial ship’s fandom because the shippers were horrible -> tearing apart fic for “wrong” or “incorrect” characterization (i.e. giving the characters flaws) or humiliating fan-artists or gif makers because skin tone was “wrong” or too light (even if the gif-maker had a history of using pastel palette). Just…who treats their FRIENDS that way? Help them, don’t humiliate them…
