I share your ambivalence but for different reasons. I mean, I could tear my hair out about the changes and yet the idea of an elf spirit and a human spirit inhabiting the same body and working together -- of elf-power being more Harry-Potter-style -- it's just cool.

I do like that they're showing Celebrimbor's story but I dislike that he's shown with an army of orcs or that Sauron could apparently overcome his spirit enough to make him a puppet (even for a little while). I just feel that after everything that happened to his family, Celebrimbor would never associate with evil that way or try to be a king himself. And he's certainly too powerful for Sauron to overcome him in such a way as shown in the game.

But, I really do like the idea of an elf and man working so closely together and connecting over shared loss -- shared experiences. So, I am also tempted to play the game, even though I don't particularly like those kinds of games.

If you don't like the story, don't bother. You barely see him, so it would be a waste of time and money for just a bit of eye candy.

And I really liked the game.

He's a great villain.

My faves were Smrgol and Danielle. And I loved the opening song/sequence.

When I was little I used to pretend Melisande, Danielle and Lady Amalthea from Last Unicorn hanging out in gardens, having tea parties or picnics.

That was before the Internet.

I think I remember the devs pretty much admitting that the game is wildly AU and they just took stuff from the books and had some fun with them, so don't let the story upset you too much. It's a great game though. The plot, again, is negligable, but raising an orc from random grunt to your ultimate nemesis is fun - as is beating the snot out of them, and then setting them fire, and having their remains eaten by the troll you're riding. :D The voice acting is phenomenal as well!

Text: This game gets the story and the characters so completely wrong. And yet its design for Annatar is pretty much my headcanon. I’m not a gamer, and the story changes still make me mad, but I’m tempted to play just for the perfection and the pretty that is Annatar.
