By that analogy, every elementary school art project that gets featured in a public library should be subject to the same critiques. They should be posted only within the walls of the elementary school or not at all.

I still maintain that it's a good analogy. Like I said, they WELCOME new players, because the more the merrier. Also, the kids could play by themselves in their backyards. Yes, maybe they might be only children and they only get to play by themselves, but they're still kicking the ball around, right? That's fun, right? (writing fic and never posting it)

Maybe they have a handful of close friends and one of the friends has a large backyard. At this point the game does become a lot more fun, but you're still not playing with a whole team. Plus it's a lot harder for new people to join. (aka a private forum)

If you want to attract new converts, friendly strangers, more team members, then the public park is the way to go.

No, because they're *children*. The author of this *kinky* fanfiction is presumably an adult and should be able to handle criticism as an adult.

It's a bad analogy because it's not a "game" where everyone participates. It's art put on display for an audience. Commenting on the fic is not defacing the art or ruining it in any way.

a better analogy is an art piece at a small gallery. You though there wouldn't be many visitors, but suddenly one visitor invites a whole bunch of friends over and it gets all crowded and loud. yeah, it's unexpected, but you still hung the damn thing up in the first place.
