Is there any way you could list secrets involving "SJWs" and social justice issues down at the bottom with spoilers and trigger warnings?

Even when the secret isn't triggery itself the comments get triggery real fast, partly because one or two trolls go out of their way to trigger people.

A bunch of trolls and other people will probably jump on me for this and call me over-sensitive. Well whatever, I'm not in the least ashamed of having mental health problems. Like a lot of people I come to fandom for fun and escapism (as well as meta and discussion), not to make myself want to start peeling my skin off.

I'm NOT saying people shouldn't say whatever they feel about issues here, I'd just really appreciate if they were down at the bottom and less in my face.

Thanks for considering it whatever you decide, Case.

(I'm not going to read anon replies because I don't have enough fucking valium for it.)

A Serious Question About A Potential Stumbling Block

I'm very sympathetic to your concern, and I think it would be good if this could happen.

The problem is that at least, as it stands, all warnings are on the submitter's side. As we've seen in previous arguments about spoilers, Case doesn't make any decision about which secrets merit a warning; he just uses the ones that submitters provide.

Do you have any ideas for how this could be accomplished? Maybe linking SJ-type secrets, like is presently done with NSFW secrets?

Good point. (I know I said I wasn't going to read replies... but I just read this one.)

Personally if he just moved them to the end of the post (not necessarily adding a TW - before the TW & spoilers would work), that'd be fine for me. It's often not the text of the secret itself, but the huge flow of discussion (and things like clicking wrong when trying to scroll past and seeing things I really, really wish I hadn't).

Problem: TW & spoilers are only on fridays. That would mean moving every social justice secret to friday.

Problem: like spoilers, how does case know what is a social justice issue and what isn't when it's not obvious?

I do think it's a lot easier to figure out what secrets are SJW-y than what secrets are spoiler-y, but I would understand if Case wasn't willing to do it.

Hrm, if they mention white people or something like that it's easy. If the secret had only been about boycotting Agent Carter, someone like me would have had no clue if that was social justice related or not b/c I don't follow that fandom.

Does Jeremy Clarkson wank count as social justice?

Re: A Serious Question About A Potential Stumbling Block

If the secret had only been about boycotting Agent Carter I bet not so many people would have jumped in to the comments on it. I'd put $300 on most of them not being people who watch the show let alone are in the fandom.

idk about Clarkson though, lol. I like OP's idea but I would be sad if all the Clarkson wank secrets were confined to Fridays ;)

(Another DA)

1. Would that be a big problem? How many social justice secrets are there? IDK, it seems like a bonus to me, keep all the wank on one day, but could be a problem if it's a particularly big issue one week (and when shows like Doctor Who are running, I can see how that could happen!).

2. If it isn't obvious, it isn't obvious and he can't be blamed for not spotting it. When they outright talk about SJWs or it's about arguments around feminism, racism, "cis scum" and all that, I think I trust Case to figure it out.

AYRT

My worry is that fridays will become social justice, spoilers, and triggers day and made of wank and serious business. If there are 10 social justice secrets per week that would mean half the post is social justice and the rest is triggers. Blegh.

What if it was just moving them to the bottom of whichever post they're already in?

TW & spoilers being on Fridays doesn't mean SJ secrets would have to be only on Fridays. It depends how much work it is for Case. I'd think it'd be easy enough to paste in any SJ secret at the bottom of each post and add the others above it. But I have no idea what his working patterns are.

Can you just not read the comments for secrets you think will give you trouble?

Re: A Serious Question About A Potential Stumbling Block

(Anonymous) 2015-03-21 04:33 am (UTC)(link)
Did you not read the comment you replied to?

Re: A Serious Question About A Potential Stumbling Block

(Anonymous) 2015-03-21 05:40 am (UTC)(link)
Yes, yes I did. OP specifically said that the comments can get triggery fast and seemed far more concerned about that than secret content. Which is why I ask, what difference does it make where the secrets are positioned or what they're labeled as when OP is just as capable as Case at reading a secret and saying, "gee, this is SJW-y, maybe I shouldn't read the comments." In fact, OP is probably BETTER than Case at that, because they know their own issues.

Re: A Serious Question About A Potential Stumbling Block

(Anonymous) 2015-03-21 11:53 am (UTC)(link)
You didn't reply to OP. You replied to someone who was pointing out problems with OP's ideas. That's what ARYT meant by "did you read the comment you replied to."

This seems like a lot to put on case though, because of the subjective opinions of what is "SJW" or not.

Re: TWs

(Anonymous) 2015-03-21 01:45 am (UTC)(link)
In today's post, 5 is subjective, but 3 isn't, and 11 wasn't.

I agree it's sometimes going to be very subjective, but even if Case moved only the outright obvious to the bottom of the page it'd be helpful to some people. I'm curious to see how this discussion goes to get an idea of how many.

Re: TWs

(Anonymous) 2015-03-21 02:02 am (UTC)(link)
Yes vote to making a general effort to move them to the bottom of the daily post (or at end but before spoilers/TW if it's Friday). Sure they're not always obvious but many are.

It doesn't have to be perfect, it doesn't have to even be an announced policy, but if it's not TOO much extra work for Case, I'm one of those who'd be v grateful.

Re: TWs

I don't really get why you need a warning when it should be easy enough to figure "hey, this secret involves sjws maybe I should avoid the comments."

Re: TWs

(Anonymous) 2015-03-21 04:30 am (UTC)(link)
this has been answered about 3 times above. and they didn't ask for a warning, they asked for the secrets to be put down the end of the page.

Re: TWs

(Anonymous) 2015-03-21 03:00 pm (UTC)(link)
This would be wonderful (with caveats addressed by others above last night).

And fuck people who think "being triggered" and "feeling bad" are the same thing. Fuck them in the eye with a screwdriver.
