A wider box might help, unless she perches on the edge and has bad aim - maybe put something in the middle for her to perch on? Otherwise, the lidded boxes help a lot with that, but most cats don't like them.

My cat had the same problem, and we ended up putting a plastic dropcloth around the box.

My mom has a cat that throws litter, so she actually bought one of those storage containers, the kind that comes with a lid. It works really well, because it's so much wider/longer than a normal cat litter bin. The lid comes in handy when she travels, too.

Oh my god, one of mine just sits in there and fucking PINGS at the edge of the litter box. This is officially the most annoying thing at like, 3am. ¬.¬;

Ha! I have a friend who does this, too, but she left the lid on and cut a hole out of it, so the whole thing is covered. Her cats seem to like it, so.....
