How clean are you keeping it? Sometimes my cat would poop outside the litter box if it was too full, as a sort of .... revenge tactic, for me not cleaning it for a while.

If cats are urinating or defecating outside the litter box frequently then it's time for a visit to the vet. Litter box avoidance can happen when cats find it painful or uncomfortable to pass urine or stool, so it's often an indication of illness or poor diet.
