Because it's pronounced "IZ-ree-ul" (in English anyway) and that sounds a lot like the phrase "is real."

Because it's an incredibly easy letter transposition both to make and to miss in a quick proofread.

I will personally say typos. One of the most common types of typos involves accidentally turning two letters around the wrong way - it's the origin of "teh".
