Ugh. I hate that too, but not as much as just sticking the names together with nothing in between: it makes me think of the characters sewed together à la human centipede.

Oh god, I used to just of the stuck together named like it would be the name of them as one globulal human entity or something, but now it's a sewed human chain.

...well, that is certainly a disturbing mental image. Thanks for putting it in my head.

I can understand that, though, in a way. I get weird literal associations with a lot of idioms, especially from foreign languages. Thus, I avoid using the phrase "my eyes/ears bled" because I immediately envisage it. I suppose it's a similar sort of thing.
