Re: Writing a Good OC (and/or recs?)

Oh yeah because who needs case of the week fic, gen fic, stories about a minor character's backstory and family. Those all just inherently suck, right?

Oh and forget about worldbuilding centric and elsewhere fic too. They can't possibly be good.

and heaven knows we can't have fanfiction writer's creating anything themselves. Nope...just play in someone else's sandbox forever, that's what a good writer does.

Now you are getting it. That is exactly it, that is what a good fanficcer actually does do.

Wow, that is totally wrong.

Banging on some canon character until they fit into your plot just leaves dents on the character. Sometimes a new character is going to fit better than any previously existing character.

Try shaping your plot so it uses the character rather than your way. Fanfic is about using the canon characters in unique ways.

I'm fairly certain you're jaybie's OC-hating troll, but come on, no. That's not what fanfiction is about at all. Fanfic can utilize canon characters in different ways, but it's not strictly defined as canon characters only and never has been.
