It was because he (and the early Church) believed in and preached the resurrection of the dead. It was only a factional sect of Jews (the Sadducees) who did NOT believe this, it was a pretty much across-the-board Jewish understanding of "life after life." (Nowadays not so much, but eh, we won't go there.) Mainstream "traditional" Christians get tetchy whenever Biblical support is presented for this. "Judaizing" etcetera.
TL;DR: When it comes to life after death, the Jews are right.
