Lenneth Valkyrie from Valkyrie Profile. Badass warrior goddess who takes no shit from anyone, while remaining compassionate and intelligent. It's been years since I played the game, but I remember it being the first one that really wowed me with its portrayal of female characters. I'm also a fan of Lightning from Final Fantasy XIII.

Jasnah, from Brandon Sanderson's Stormlight Archive series, impressed me with her scholarship and authority, and while there are masses of interesting women in The Malazan Book of the Fallen series by Steven Erikson, two of my favourites are Tavore and Apsalar. Oh, and Thymara and Alise from Robin Hobb's Rain Wilds Chronicles.
