Ugh, I hate them, too. My otp doesn't have a portmanteau name, and whenever I see someone on Tumblr ask what the portmanteau name is and suggest some godawful option, I'm soooo relieved that none of them has ever stuck and supplanted the good ol' two names with a slash in the middle!

It must be a very small fandom. I've tried using the names written out with a slash or x in between and I never find what I am looking for.

Portmanteaus are so much easier to getting exactly what your looking for and doesn't cause any confusion with mixed results or characters that have similar names. Not just tumblr but everywhere in general. You absolutely must use portmanteaus if you want to search anything on pixiv. The Japanese fans always use portmanteaus for their ships.
