While I agree that portmanteaus are uniformly stupid and twee, Tumblr makes them a bit of a necessity. Ever tried creating a functional tumblr tag with a / in it? Can't be done.

Using an x instead could work, but doesn't seem to have caught on. Personally, I'd be fucking ecstatic if fandoms could choose portmanteaus based on functionality rather than cuteness. "Golly" is certainly ADORABLE and all, but it's also already in use for a completely different ship, AND it's an actual word, rendering it completely useless as a tag.
