(As for OP, I thought I only liked sibling incest too, until I realized I could ship parent/kid stuff under the right circumstances. And then felt awful, but whatever. Once I was 'tricked' into it too, but I ain't even mad anymore.)

I can do parent/kid stuff if they didn't have any kind of relationship while the kid was growing up. Like, if the parent was absent for some reason and then showed up when the kid was an adult, all like, "hi, I'm your mom/dad, sorry for not being there," or if the kid was adopted and then met their biological parent later on (especially if, when they first meet, they don't know). I can't do it if the parent actually raised them.

I apparently just generally like it, too, although it seems to be mainly brothers for me (I've definitely shipped brother/sister, and sisters, too, though). It doesn't have to be disturbing and angsty for me, though (but I can definitely get into that!). If it's all fluffy and romantic it's probably not exactly realistic but I'll probably still like it just as much as I would anything else if I like the pairing. I think for me it's more about character dynamics than anything else, though. Like, best friends/childhood friends is pretty much my favorite thing to ship, and a lot of times siblings have that same type of dynamic, I guess? I don't know if that even makes sense. The most recent example was Pacific Rim, where within like, a minute, I was shipping two characters, thinking they were just two random dudes but then they turned out to be brothers and I was like "eh, guess I shouldn't be surprised" lol

Text: I’ve recently realized that I just generally like sibling incest, but only if it is portrayed as angsty and disturbing and isn’t romanticized.

It used to be just one ship, now it is them all. But only if it is brother and sister.

I'm the opposite. I like incest but I like it to be happy with heavy emphasis on the family relationship. It just seems like the angst from incestuous pairings is all kind of the same in everything I've read. I've written fics about how bad/wrong it is and how hard it is to deal with these feelings, etc. but once was enough for me. It just feels like I'm seeing the same thing over and over again, and I only wrote it that one time because that was how someone would've felt but it didn't appeal to me at all.

Personally, I really like the extra closeness with incestuous pairings - being family and lovers at the same time, and seeing how or if you can really juggle those two hats. (I read a good Thranduil/Legolas fic with that where T/L ended up breaking up because Legolas still needed a dad and Thranduil didn't know how to be a dad and a lover too, and just steered Legolas in another direction but there wasn't a lot of angst in the story; it was just Legolas growing through his attraction and T waiting him out.)

I feel like Turin/Nienor is a separate kind of incestuous relationship - accidental incest, where the audience knows about the incest but they don't. Since they didn't grow up together, they didn't have that family bond that's what is intriguing about incest to me. Obviously, it's still very much incest but it definitely has a different flavor than other kinds of incestuous ships.

On one hand, I do like my incest angsty, but on the other hand I like non-angsty as well for the reasons you, anon, define so well. It comes down to what sort of mood I'm in which type I will read.
